Rey “Boom Boom” Martinez brings his indoor experience and an infectious personality to the Rochester Lancers. Rey’s playing career began in his native Cuba before he defected to the United States during the 2002 Gold Cup after earning 17 caps for the Cuban National Team. From there, Rey has played in MLS (Colorado Rapids), the USL (Rochester Rhinos, Carolina RailHawks, and Real Maryland Monarchs), and the MISL (Baltimore Blast, NJ Ironmen, and Philadelphia KiXX), including over three seasons with the Rochester Rhinos. Rey is a speedy, skillful, and versatile player who has played on defense, in the midfield, and at forward during his indoor career.

Rey “Boom Boom” Martinez …. The dynamic defender appeared in 16 games last season and posted 6 points through one goal and four assists. Rey’s playing career began in his native Cuba before he defected to the United States during the 2002 Gold Cup, after earning 17 caps for the Cuban National Team. From there, Rey signed with the Colorado Rapids in MLS. When he joined the team in 2004, he became the first Cuban player to play in MLS. Rey has played in the USL with the Carolina Railhawks, Real Maryland Monarchs and including more than three seasons with the Rochester Rhinos. He has played several seasons in the MISL with the New Jersey Ironmen, the Philadelphia KiXX and the Baltimore Blast, who he won the MISL championship with in 2008.

International

Before his defection, Martinez was an important player for the Cuban national team, earning 17 caps in the Gold Cup, Copa Caribe, and Pan American Games.
