Thursday night the 2018 MASL playoffs began in Syracuse, NY with the Syracuse Silver Knights hosting the Baltimore Blast.
Lancers Legend Joey Kapinos was my player of the game making several spectacular saves for the Blast as well as registering 2 assists. Mustache Mania continues in this year's playoffs with Lancers Legend "The Big Smooth" Andrew Hoxie who's so damn foxy. He had an amazing goal in the 2nd quarter for the Blast.
The Silver Knights turned on the pressure in the 4th quarter and "Earthquake Jake The Snake" Schindler with a goal bringing the game closer and with less than 2 minutes left in the game, Joey Tavernese with a beautiful assist for Syracuse. The Blast won game one 7-6. Several former Rhinos were on the turf last night including Kenardo Forbes and Nate Bourdeau for the Knights. Hoxie, Tony Donatelli, Jonathan Greenfield played great for their coach and former Rhino Danny Kelly with the Blast.
I had the privilege of hanging with "The Godfather Of Indoor Soccer" Blast owner Ed Hale and Silver Knights owner and former Rhinos Legend Tommy Tanner. Both these legendary owners have more rings than Kay Jewelers!
Game 2 is Sunday in Baltimore. Go Lancers Legends!
I hate Mexican food but I love Indoor Mexican soccer!
The Monterrey Flash visited Soles de Sonora in game one. The Flash closed out the regular season with 20 wins and only 2 loses and Soles finished with a 15-7 record in the Southwest division. Former Lancers Legend Carlos "Chili" Farias was my player of the game and scored his first goal of the night late in the 3rd to take the lead for the Flash. Chili scored 2 more goals in the 4th and the Flash won game one 8-7.
Game 2 is Sunday in Monterrey. Go Mexico!
My all time favorite team in the west is the San Diego Sockers with coach Phil Salvaggio.
The Sockers had an amazing regular season with a 19-3 record in the Pacific division. The Tacoma Stars slid by the Ontario Fury to make the playoffs with an 11-11 record. Game one was last night in Tacoma and Lancers Legend "The Mohican Warrior" Elliott Fauske was in the house. The Stars beat the Sockers 5-2 in game one.
Lancers Legends Evan McNeley lead the Stars defense and Alex Megson was out with an injury. Former Rhino Ze Roberto had a great game for the Sockers and former Rhinos Andrew Lorei and Anthony Medina were out with injuries.
Game 2 is Saturday in San Diego at the Valley View Casino Center.
The Milwaukee Wave will visit the Cedar Rapids Rampage for game one Saturday at noon central time at The Odeum.
Several former Rhinos play for both teams including Tony "I Like" Walls for the Rampage and the new dynamic duo of Ian Bennett and Max Ferdinand for the Wave. Game 2 is Sunday in Milwaukee.
