The Rochester Lancers overwhelmed the Cincinnati Swerve with six straight goals en route to a 7-2 victory on Saturday night at the IDE Family Field at the Dome Arena. A fourth sellout crowd in four games saw the indoor Rochester Lancers improve their record to 4-2 on the season.
The Lancers, who broke a two-match losing streak, had six different goal scorers on Saturday. In an effort where Rochester led 33-8 in shots, Jake Schindler paved the way with a goal and three assists. Enrique contributed a pair of goals to go along with an assist. Marcelo Moreira had three saves in an impressive performance.
Despite a pair of goals from Cincinnati’s Saliou Diop, the Lancers were able to draw first blood against the Swerve (2-5) to the tune of four first-quarter goals. Domenico Vitale and Enrique began the match with a goal each to give the Lancers a 2-0 lead in the first four minutes, both assisted by Schindler.
Schindler completed a three-point quarter with a goal of his own with 2:27 left in the opening frame before Jeremy Ortiz closed out the quarter with a power play strike.
After a scoreless second quarter, the Lancers extended their lead with an unassisted Anthony Rozzano strike - his first ever indoor soccer goal. Schindler added his third assist of the match on a goal from Lubo Kocic with under two minutes to play to extend their lead to six.
After the Swerve finally got a shot past Moreira at the start of the fourth, Enrique brought the Lancers lead up to 7-1 before Diop completed his brace moments later. The final ten minutes of the match didn’t feature any goals, but did feature a major altercation which saw two of the Swerve’s players ejected.
The Lancers will now hit the road for a four-match stint beginning with back-to-back matches at Cincinnati and Detroit next Saturday and Sunday. After games at Muskegon and Chicago, the Lancers will host their final two home matches of the season against the Detroit Waza Flo and Muskegon Riders on Friday, March 8 and Saturday, March 9, respectively.
