Lancers Veteran GK, Marcelo Moreira Returns

(Rochester, NY) Brazilian Soccer Icon returns to the Rochester Lancers as a player and coach. Marcelo Moreira returns to the Lancers bringing 20+ years of soccer experience and 5 years of indoor soccer experience. Per league and team policies, no further terms of the agreement were disclosed.

“Marcelo will bring a much needed lift to our team. He is a talented, veteran goalkeeper who will solidify the back line for us in goal, but more importantly help our young goalkeepers understand the difficult game of indoor soccer,” Said Head Coach Doug Miller “I am excited to have Marcelo involved with the Lancers organization as a player and a coach.”

Marcelo Moreira, Goalkeeper, #22.

Born and raised in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Moreira has had an extensive soccer career. He grew up playing in youth development programs of the best clubs in Brazil, Corinthians, Sao Paulo and ultimately where he ended up going Pro, Palmeiras. Marcelo then spent 10 years playing in Palmeiras, followed by a successful stint as the team captain of Juventus (Brazil) for 5 years where he helped lead the team from the 2^nd Division into the 1^st Division. In 2013, Marcelo moved to the US where he continued his soccer career but now as an indoor player playing for the Syracuse Silver Knights, Rochester Lancers, St Louis Ambush and last season as a back-up for Utica City in the MASL and Rochester Lancers in the MASL2.

Marcelo has established his roots here in Rochester, NY with his wife Kayla, daughter Jilliana and son on the way, Thiago. He is the Director of Goalkeeping for the WNY Flash Youth Academy and also runs his own Soccer Training Company called ‘More Keepers’. Moreira has spent the past 5 seasons as an Assistant/Goalkeeper Coach for Monroe Community College Men’s program and the Nazareth Men’s Soccer program as a Goalkeeper Coach.

2005-2006, 2008-2011: Clube Atletico Juventus, 1^st Division, Professional

2006-2007: A.D. Sao Caetano, 1^st Division, Professional

2013-2014: Syracuse Silver Knights

2014-2015, 2018-2019: Rochester Lancers, MASL and MASL2

2015-2016: St Louis. Ambush

2018-2019: Utica City
