The Rochester Lancers may not have an indoor soccer season this year, but they haven't forgotten about their most ardent supporters.
They want to thank them for being loyal and patient fans in the most unique way possible, something that will warm their hearts during this harsh, cold winter.
The team's season ticket holders will have a chance to win two tickets to an Inter Miami CF game in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. this coming Major League Soccer season. The fortunate fans will be selected via a random drawing.
The Lancers boast three teams - the indoor squad that competes in the Major Arena Soccer League, the men's outdoor side that participates in the National Premier Soccer League and the women's team that plays in United Women's Soccer.
"Our fans have been amazing and patient with all these daily COVID changes," Lancers Director of Soccer Operations Kayla Klark Kent-Moreira said. "We currently don’t know if fans will be allowed in our stadium for our upcoming NPSL and UWS seasons.
"With this bitter cold, we decided to say thank you and five different season ticket holders could win two tickets to a Inter Miami home game and that includes airfare and a hotel."
The Lancers had hoped to play indoors at the Dome Arena in Henrietta, N.Y. this winter, but restrictions by New York State and the fact their home venue is being used as a vaccination center has dented the team's plans.
At the present time, plans are fluid for the outdoor season. The NPSL and UWS seasons usually starts in May and runs through July. The Lancers' home venue for the outdoor season is Aquinas Institute.
"I have no idea what will happen in the next few months," Lancers Owner Salvatore "SoccerSam" Fantauzzo said. "First priority is that our fans, players and staff are COVID safe. If we can safely have fans, then we will. If we can’t all games will be on Lancers TV. For now, we want to thank our loyal fans. Some have been supporting us since day one. The Miami/Fort Lauderdale area will be a sunny break from our harsh Rochester winter."
