For Immediate Release: METUCHEN, NJ - A triple header of games on Saturday, May 15th highlights the announcement of the 2021 United Women's Soccer (UWS) East Conference schedule. The defending regular season champion New England Mutiny host Scorpions Soccer Club at Lusitano Stadium while the Long Island Rough Riders travel to Doyle Stadium to face the Worcester Smiles. Both games kick-off at 7:00 PM EDT. The Connecticut Fusion commence with a home match at Farmington Sports Arena (7:30 PM EDT) versus the Albany Rush, who will be playing in their first-ever UWS match.
The East Conference is composed of thirteen organizations for 2021 with each team playing a ten-game schedule. The fifth season of competition in the keystone conference sees five new expansion sides join the fray.
“With the conference nearly doubling in size from a year ago, each and every game will be important for a playoff berth and resulting National Championship run,” said League Commissioner Joe Ferrara. “Be that as it may, the first game for every team in the conference will carry special meaning with all that has occurred in the past year.”
The regular season wraps up in exciting fashion on the weekend of July 10-11 with seven conference games on the docket. Five matches occur on Saturday and all could have postseason implications. Long Island has a tough away-and-home doubleheader starting at New England (7:00 PM EDT at Lusitano Stadium) on July 10th. The Rough Riders return home on July 11th with a home match at Hofstra Soccer Stadium (5:00 PM EDT) against the two-time defending East champion Lancaster Inferno.
The postseason commences the weekend of July 16-18 when there will be a regional playoff to determine the representative for the UWS National Championship (July 23-25). Stay tuned for more information on our 2021 postseason format & championship host.
